Scammers are constantly coming up with new tactics to deceive users, so it’s crucial to be aware and vigilant. Here’s a few tips to help teens avoid scams and protect their money while using online payment systems.

  1. Verify the Recipient of the Transaction

Always double-check the username and details of the person or business you’re sending money to. Scammers might pose as friends, family, or trusted entities to trick you into sending money. If someone claims to need money urgently, please take a step back to verify their identity through another communication method before making any transaction.

  1. Be Cautious of Links and Attachments

A common form of scam is links and attachments being sent by a scammer posing as an online payment app. These emails may look very real, although you will find slight differences in the URL link, email address, and terms and conditions at the bottom of the page that will indicate if it is spam. If an online payment app contacts you and urgently asks for money, please check the authenticity of the email and report any scam emails.

  1. Monitor Your Accounts Regularly

Keep a close eye on your payment app accounts. Regularly check your transaction history for any unauthorized charges or suspicious activity. Report any discrepancies to the app’s support team immediately.
